Lough Corrib is justly famous for its wild brown trout fishing on its vast lake of 41,600 acres, however a lot of salmon are also taken every year on the lake. The Glann shore and the Carrick shore where Sector 1 is fished from are noted holding lies for salmon, quite a few fish are taken on trout flies by trout anglers. Angling on Lough Corrib is free, it holds a good stock of trout which average about 1.5lbs. Fish of up to 10lbs are taken on the fly with fish up to 20lbs occasionally taken by trolling.
Carrick Shore is at the top end of the lake via N84 from Galway to Cross village turn left on to R346 through Cong village turning right on to R345 drive on till you see the lake on your left. Please note that you must have a salmon licence to fish for salmon, and that trout anglers who catch a salmon must by law release the fish if they do not hold a valid salmon licence in their possession.
